Summary

The V.League 1 (VIE1) is the top football league in the Vietnam football system. At the end of the 2022 VIE1 season, the VIE1 teams listed below qualify for the following non-league play:

2023 AFC Champions League - Group Stage:
- 1st place 2022 VIE1 team
2023 AFC Cup - Group Stage:
- 2nd place 2022 VIE1 team

The winner of the 2022 Vietnamese Cup, typically an VIE1 team, also receives a berth in the Group Stage of the 2023 AFC Cup.

Due to COVID-19, the 2021 VIE1 season was cut short at 12 regular season matches per team with no champion determined or teams relegated. One team, Than Quảng Ninh FC, is not allowed to participate in the 2022 VIE1 due to financial reasons.

Season Format

During the 2022 VIE1 regular season, each VIE1 team plays the other 12 VIE1 teams twice for a total of 24 league matches per team. Table ranking ties are broken by (1) head-to-head points, (2) goal difference, (3) goals scored, (4) Fairplay ranking, (5) a playoff (only to decide champions, runners-up, relegation spots, etc.), then (5) a drawing.

Relegation

At the end of the 2022 Regular season, the 13th place VIE1 team will be relegated directly to VIE2.
