Summary

The A-League (AUS1), or Hyundai A-League, was established in 2004 and is Australia's primary football competition. The number of teams increased from 11 to 12 with the addition of Macarthur FC for the 2020-2021 season. At the end of the 2022-2023 AUS1 season, the AUS1 teams listed below qualify for the following non-league play:

  • 2024 AFC Champions League - Group Stage:
    • 1st place 2022-2023 AUS1 team
    • 2022-2023 AUS1 Grand Final winner
  • 2024 AFC Champions League - Playoff:
    • 2nd and 3rd place 2022-2023 AUS1 teams

Season Format

During the 2022-2023 AUS1 23 round Regular season, each AUS1 team will play 22 league matches and have 1 bye. Table ranking ties are broken by (1) goal difference, (2) total goals scored, (3)least red cards, (4) least yellow cards, (5) coin toss (for 2 tied teams).

Playoffs

At the end of the 2022-2023 AUS1 Regular season, the 1st and 2nd place teams receive berths in the Final series Semifinal match, while the 3rd through 6th place teams play one match in the Final series Elimination-Finals. Elimination-Finals winners advance to the one match Semifinals. Semifinals winners play in the 2022-2023 one match Grand Final.
