Summary

The A-League (AUS1), or Hyundai A-League, was established in 2004 and is Australia's primary football competition. The number of teams increased from 10 to 11 with the addition of Western United FC for the 2019-2020 season. At the end of the 2019-2020 AUS1 season, the AUS1 teams listed below qualify for the following non-league play:

  • 2021 AFC Champions League - Group Stage:
    • 1st place 2019-2020 AUS1 team
    • 2019-2020 AUS1 Grand Final winner
  • 2021 AFC Champions League - Preliminary Round 2:
    • 2nd place 2019-2020 AUS1 team

Season Format

During the 2019-2020 AUS1 29 round Regular season, each AUS1 team will play 26 league matches and have 3 byes. Table ranking ties are broken by (1) goal difference, then (2) total goals scored.

Playoffs

At the end of the 2019-2020 AUS1 Regular season, the 1st and 2nd place teams receive berths in the Final series Semifinal match, while the 3rd through 6th place teams play one match in the Final series Elimination-Finals. Elimination-Finals winners advance to the one match Semifinals. Semifinals winners play in the 2019-2020 one match Grand Final.
