Summary

The Nigerian Professional Football League (NGA1) is the top football league in Nigeria's football system. At the end of the 2023 NGA1 season, the NGA1 teams listed below qualify for the following non-league play:

2024 CAF Champions League:
- 1st and 2nd place 2023 NGA1 Championship Round teams
2024 CAF Confederation Cup:
- 3rd place 2023 NGA1 Championship Round team

The winner of the 2023 Nigerian FA Cup, typically a NGA1 team, also receives a berth in the 2024 CAF Confederation Cup.

Season Format

For the 2023 NGA1 season, the 20 teams are split into 2 groups of 10 and play in 2 phases. In the 1st Phase, each team in each group plays Home-Away matches with the other 9 NGA1 teams in their group for a total of 18 league matches per team. The top 3 teams in each group advance to the 2nd Phase. Table ranking ties are broken by (1) goal difference, then (2) total goals scored. In the 2nd Phase ("The Super Six"), each team plays Home-Away matches with the other 5 teams for 10 additional matches per team. Table ranking ties are broken by (1) head-to-head points, (2) goal difference, (3) goals scored, (4) disciplinary points, (5) a playoff (only to decide spots for post season play and/or relegation, then (6) a drawing.

Relegation

At the end of the 2023 NGA1 season, the 9th and 10th place teams from each group NGA1 teams will be relegated to the NGA2.
