Summary

The Maltese Premier League (MLT1) or BOV Premier League is the top division/league in the Maltese football system. At the end of the 2020-2021 season, the MLT1 teams listed below qualify for the following non-league play:

  • 2021-2022 UEFA Champions League - 1st Qualifying Round:
    • 1st place 2020-2021 MLT1 team
  • 2021-2022 UEFA Europa Conference League - 1st Qualifying Round:
    • 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place 2020-2021 MLT1 teams

On 9 April 2021, the 2020-2021 MLT1 season was officially abandoned due to COVID-19.

Season Format

Each team plays Home-Away matches with the other 15 MLT1 teams twice for a total of 30 league matches. Table ranking ties are broken by a playoff if deciding UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League berths.

Not applicable.

Relegation

At the end of the 2020-2021 MLT1 season, the 13th and 14th place MLT1 teams will be relegated to the MLT2, while two MLT2 teams will be promoted to the 2021-2022 MLT1. The 12th place MLT1 team will enter into a home/away highest aggregate goals wins Promotion/Relegation playoff with the 3rd place MLT2 team.
