Summary

The Canadian Premier League (CAN1) was established 6 May 2017 and is Canada's premier football competition. CAN1 expanded to 8 teams for the 2020 season with the addition of Atlético Ottawa At the end of the 2022 CAN1 season, the CAN1 teams listed below qualify for the following non-league play:

Season Format

During the 2022 CAN1 Regular season, each CAN1 team plays Home-Away matches with the other 7 CAN1 teams twice for a total of 28 league matches. Table ranking ties are broken by (1) total wins, (2) goal difference, (3) total goals scored, (4) away goal difference, (5) away goals scored, (6) home goal difference, (7) home goals scored, (8) coin toss or a drawing.

Playoffs

At the end of the 2022 CAN1 season, the the 2nd and 3rd place teams, and the 1st and 4th place teams play in one match semifinals. The winners then play each other in a one match final. If either the semifinal or the final is tied at the end of regular time, two 15 minute extra periods are played. The winner then plays the 1st place team in a one match final. If either the semifinal or the final is tied at the end of regular time, two 15 minute extra periods are played. If the matches are still tied after the extra periods, a penalty shoot-out is held.

Relegation

Currently the CAN1 does not have relegation. As the Canadian League Pyramid expands, relegation is expected.
